Gramophone Works
A new creative environment for independent fashion, art & experimental design.
After more than a decade working from Studio 102 in North West London, Strangely 430 is entering a new chapter at The Gramophone Works, a former industrial building transformed into a contemporary creative workspace.
The move represents more than a change of surroundings. It marks a natural progression from years of independent experimentation & development towards a more open, collaborative way of working.
A New Chapter for Strangely 430
TWELVE YEARS OF EXPERIMENTATION
Studio 102 has been the centre of an extensive period of research, learning & creative development.
Within a relatively small space, traditional tailoring, pattern cutting, textile printing, photography, digital design & 3D manufacturing gradually became part of a connected creative process.
What began as individual experiments developed into an increasingly integrated approach to designing & making clothing, accessories & artwork.
Much of this work took place independently, allowing ideas to evolve without the constraints of conventional fashion production or commercial expectations.
The result is an extensive collection of techniques, processes & designs that now form the foundations of Strangely 430.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF CREATIVE SPACE
The Gramophone Works offers a striking contrast to the enclosed environment of Studio 102.
Its industrial architecture, open interiors, concrete surfaces & contemporary design create an environment that encourages experimentation& interaction.
The building brings together businesses & individuals from different creative disciplines, offering opportunities for conversation, collaboration and the exchange of ideas.
For Strangely, this is an important part of the move.
After years spent developing the technical & creative foundations of the label, the emphasis is shifting towards presenting work, meeting other creatives & exploring new collaborations.
FASHION, ART & EVERYTHING BETWEEN
Strangely has never been concerned with maintaining strict boundaries between creative disciplines.
Traditional tailoring techniques coexist with digital pattern development, 3D printing, experimental textiles, photography & sculpture.
Garments become artworks, while graphic design & street photography find their way onto clothing and accessories.
The new studio will continue to support the development of Strangely 430, Slum Gentry & POST NO BILLS, our ongoing collaborative art project exploring the relationship between street imagery, fashion & gallery spaces.
The industrial character of The Gramophone Works also provides an interesting setting for photography, installations & experimental presentations.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
The past twelve years have been about acquiring knowledge, developing techniques & understanding how different creative processes can work together.
Now those processes have become part of a single creative language.
The move to The Gramophone Works represents an opportunity to put that knowledge into practice in a different environment, one that encourages interaction rather than isolation.
There will still be experiments, mistakes, discoveries & unexpected directions. Those have always been essential to the way we work.
But there will also be new conversations, collaborations & opportunities to share what we have been developing.
The workshop years have laid the foundations. Now the next chapter begins.
